Stand Up And Be Counted: Census 2005

Every 5 years, the government of Japan conducts a nationwide population census. As of October 1, the 2005 version officially kicks off. As per legal regulations, everyone living in Japan, regardless of nationality, must take part by filling out the census form provided by a census enumerator who will call on you twice between late September and early October (once to distribute the census form and another time to collect your completed form). Information obtained from the census will be used only for statistical purposes and will never be used for immigration control, taxation or policing.

Foreign residents of Japan can contact The Tokyo Metropolitan Government with any queries regarding the census. Service available between September 20 and October 7 (excepting national holidays) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the following languages:

Chinese, Korean: (03) 5388-2573
